NEO Vortex and Spark Flex

The Vortex is REV's flagship brushless motor for FIRST Robotics, the next generation after the NEO. I led the mechanical, thermal and motor design. That included a custom stator and its performance spec, so I designed how the motor performs, not just how it's packaged. I also co-invented the modular design that combines the motor and a removable controller into one unit. The SPARK Flex is REV's current motor controller for FIRST Robotics, built to run the Vortex and other brushless motors.

I led the mechanical and thermal design of both products and took them to production. Together with the NEO, SPARK MAX and SPARK Flex, REV's motor and controller line is a top revenue driver at over $1M.
